Our goals originate from 2 important aspects on rescue and adoption of animals.
- The immediate rescue and adoption of existing strays, pets no longer wanted or those where their owner can no longer continue to provide a suitable "forever home".
- To use all available funds, for the strict purpose of rescue, vetting and adoptions.
Strays and others that haven't been spayed or neutered, continue to propogate and results in an ever increasing number of their kind, continuing to expand the need for Rescue and Adoption Services. Capturing, rescuing and adopting these in the short term, and having them spayed/neutered, at least reduces these expanding numbers. Additionally, due to the numbers, instead of being spayed and neutered and eventually adopted, many of the captured animals, eventually end up in local shelters, where most are euthanized.
Our goal is to provide an alternative to capture and euthanizia, by rescuing as many as we possibly can, with the funds and volunteers available to us. This includes rescuing from shelters, from found strays, from unwanted and from those unable to be cared for due to various circumstances.
Those of us that are independents, aren't able to become official non-profits, so consequently our available financial resources are limited to our personal funds. Even so, although we do not charge for our adoptions, independents are still able to rescue and adopt numbers in the hundreds each year. We are dedicated to this endeavor, as we feel an immediate need to prevent the propogation of these ever increasing numbers along with our desire to see as many rescued pets, as possible, being adopted.
We also work with other rescue groups in the area having the same goals, where the utilization of available funds are used for the purpose of short term, immediate rescues, spay/neuters and eventual adoptions to a "forever home". Where possible, we utilize private homes or other "no/low" cost facilities to allow a high percentage of our funds to be used purely in our efforts to rescue immediately, as many pets as possible.
As mentioned, independents generally do not charge for adoptions, however due to food and vet costs incurred, this does reduce the number of rescues possible. "Most" that do charge, do so to provide additional funds, purely towards future rescues. While independents do not charge, we do accept gifts by those adopting one of our pets, towards our future rescues.
Again, to re-emphasize, independents like ourselves, and those groups we work with, feel very strongly that the need is "NOW", and that the major percentage of available funds are actually utilized for the strict purpose of rescues, adoptions and the immediate reduction of the ever increasing numbers of strays, ferels, captures and otherwise adoptable pets.
